The Stages of Transition

A transition involves navigating through multiple stages, and it is helpful to be aware of what is happening.

The Ending or Letting Go: This is where a transition starts. When we are made aware of a change requiring transition, we first React. A variety of feelings my come over us, most of which are uncomfortable. We must leave our comfort zone and can become Resistant and start looking for ways to get out of it.

The Messy Middle/Neutral Zone: Once we work through these feelings, we Recognize the situation for what it is. We begin to acknowledge that the transition is necessary, we can begin to mentally shift and can convince ourselves it’s ok, we may even become hopeful. Things really start to turn at this point, and we begin to Refocus, and are able to accept the transition.

Once we accept our fate, we can gain a new awareness about the meaning and purpose of this transition and can develop a new perspective about our future. At this point we have truly let go of the past, and we begin to Rework things to fit a new normal. We may begin to reconstruct things to make adjustments which make sense and work for us. We are able to refine and to take positive action which moves us forward to our new reality.

Our New Beginning: We arrive at our new situation or circumstance and can begin to Reroot. We thrive with a new and inspired energy. It is at this point; we are able to tap into our new reality and to make it work for us in an authentic way.
